RECEPTION PARTY MUSIC

"SHOUT".....From "Animal House." This is the premier party song of all time. Tying it in with "Louie Louie" is unbeatable.

"NEW YORK, NEW YORK".....Probably played at every wedding everywhere. But that's because so many people like to dance to it, young and old. Besides, it's fun to invite the bridesmaids to do the "Chorus Line," locked arm-in-arm and kicking their legs high at the end of the song.
THE "BIRD".....You'll be surprised how well your crowd learned from Morris Day.
"TEQUILA".....Watch what happens when the crowd is challenged to do the famed "Pee Wee Herman Dance."
"MOTHER - IN - LAW".....A natural good- time song for weddings. The new mothers-in-law usually get good-natured teasing as it's played.
"I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE".....Watch the guests begin imitating the California Raisins on the TV commercial.
"IN THE MOOD".....A great Jitterbug song to dance to, and a nostalgic treasure for the older guests, particularly grandparents. For variation, and a modern beat, you can use "Swing The Mood" by Jive Bunny, a more updated version of the same song.
THE "COTTON- EYED JOE".....It seems like every crowd has a group that wants to try this favorite country dance. Even some who don't know how to do it will take the opportunity to learn by joining in.
THE "TWO - STEP".....Another popular dance for those guests with country leanings. Titles you can use include "Elvira," "Jambalaya," or almost any fast song by Hank Williams, Jr.
"LINE DANCES".....Great group dances for your guests. They include the "Harlem Shuffle," the "Hully Gully," and the "Freeze," among others.
"CHE LA LUNA" (Butcher Boy).....A natural for Italian weddings, as guests enthusiastically do the "Circle Dance," clap and sing along.
"POLKA"...You'd be surprised how many people like to show they can do this.
"DIRTY DANCING".....Not really "dirty," but fun. Any of the songs from the movie will give you "The Time Of Your Life."
THE "HOKEY POKEY" and THE "BUNNY HOP".....Both good group dances for late in the reception, enjoyed by all from the youngest to the seniors.
THE "TWIST".....An all-time favorite for all age groups.
"MACK THE KNIFE" and "BILL BAILEY".....Two favorites for your older guests, and others who just like "fun" music.
"MOTOWN".....Particularly the Temptations and the Four Tops. Just about everyone feels that Motown sound. It's fun to dance to. Groomsmen have been known to line up together and sing the songs while dancing the choreography, just like the actual groups do in performances. Likewise, the ladies do their best impressions of the Supremes, singing to "Stop In The Name Of Love."
"CHA - CHA".....It's fun for the band or DJ to challenge the crowd to dance the cha-cha to "My Girl," "I Just Called To Say I Love You," "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," "Under The Boardwalk," etc.
"LATIN".....Watch your guests dance and sing along with "Mambo #5," "La Bamba," "Hot Hot Hot," or dance around the room in a single line to "Conga."
THE "STROLL".....Some lovers of 50's music still like to try out this dance, performed by two rows of people facing each other.
"WALTZ".....Throw in one for the old folks. "Could I Have This Dance" by Anne Murray, "The Last Waltz" by Engelbert Humperdinck, or "Waltz Across Texas" by Ernest Tubb will make them smile.
WE ARE FAMILY".....The perfect fast dance and sing-along number for just before the end of the reception. Everyone usually forms a big circle and claps as people take turns entering the circle and "strutting their stuff."
